Darth Tyria was a padawan during the Massacre of Ossus. Instead of killing her, she was taken as a prisoner and slave to Darth Rado, who brutalized the young woman. She did what she had to do to survive. She eventually fell to the Dark Side to escape the pain and misery that dealt to her. She eventually killed her master and presented Rado's head to Darth Krayt, who was amused by the tenacity of the young woman, that he allowed her to join the One Sith. There are many of the Sith who do not trust or like her, feeling that she is not truly faithful to the Sith.
The truth of the matter is that Darth Tyria is not truly a Sith. In the midst of her torture, she received a vision through the Force. She saw three possibilities. The first of those was her death. The second was her falling to the Dark Side and becoming Sith. The third possibility showed her that if she allowed herself to slip just far enough to convince the others of her transformation so that she could work within the Sith as an agent of the Force. That vision showed her in the Sith Temple, lowering the security systems so that a young man could help free two boys from the same fate that she had been dealt and that one of the boys would hold an important hand in the future of the galaxy.
So keeping her faith in the vision, she allowed herself to fall to the Dark Side so that one day, she might be able to help bring about the downfall of the Sith.
