Elashi was once a very different person. During the war, he was a fearless officer in the Galactic Alliance. His courage earned him numerous awards, including the Alderaani Star Cluster, an award given to a very few. He was the commanding officer in charge of a strike against the Sith. During the battle, he was gravely injured from a piece of shrapnel to the head. The resulting brain damage left him with an almost childlike mental state and a simpleton's mind.
He was thrown into a prison cell on the planet Ash, where Darth Taraxis delighted in torturing the Cathar. He managed to escape the cell and using ancient passageways under the citadel, he made his way to the landing pad, where he stole aboard one of the supply ships and made his escape. Afterwards, he lived on the street, surviving by eating out of the trash and at shelters. He found his way from planet to planet, trying to find a place that he could belong once again.
In this, he found his way to Ord Mantell where he eventually met up with Iaco, Jek, Neti, and Gr'nar. Jek knew that he somehow fit into the puzzle of their lives somehow, even if he did not know how or why. That why became clearer when his mind was read by the telepath Sharla Lotze, who saw that he had been on Ash and had escaped. Despite his fears of going back to Ash, he helped in the rescue of Jarec Horn and Lexi Lar.
After that, he found his place as a member of Iaco's crew on the Radiant Splendor.
