Born on the remote world of Roon, out on the Outer Rim, Jek grew up without a lot of Imperial interference, as his father used to call it. For as long as Jek can remember he has had dreams and visions that have come to pass, some days or weeks before, some only minutes.
The vision Jek had of his father’s death was only minutes before it happened. His father Vaylo R’all was a ship mechanic and a member of the local militia. On one of the rare occassions that the Empire turned its eyes on Roon, Darth Traxis had come to seek repairs on his personal craft that had taken some damages and forced him to planetside. Jek had a vision of the Sith Lord cutting down his father. He ran to his father’s garage to warn him. Darth Traxis was there only to commendeer a ship in the name of the Empire. When Jek ran in yelling that he saw the red man killing him, Traxis felt the presence of the Force in the boy. When he tried to take the fourteen year old, Vaylo tried to stop him, but was easily slain in the attempt.
The local doctor, Urias Baskalar, however, had seen the boy running in panic towards his father’s shop. He had sense the potential in the boy for years but had been too afraid to allow his secret to surface and did nothing. He saw the Sith Lord murder the boy’s father and try to force Jek to come along with him. He did something that he had not done in years – he ignited his lightsaber. Darth Traxis heard the lightsaber’s hum but was too late to respond and felt the blade cut through his chest. Not knowing whether or not the Sith Lord had reported to anyone about the boy, Urias convinced the boy that he had to flee with him.
Since that time, Jek has been travelling and hiding with the crazy old doctor from down the street. Over the last couple of months, Urias has been teaching Jek the ways of the Force and the ways of the Jedi. For a young boy who grew up on a very small, very backwater world, the galaxy has suddenly opened up into a much larger universe.
