Marek was born and raised on Anaxis. His father was the head of the Imperial Academy there, and he was raised in his father's shadow. In addition to his military training, Marek chose to follow in his mother's footsteps of the political arena as well. He was sent to Coruscant to work with military intelligence as well as to serve as an aide to Moff Veed.
While living on Coruscant, he began to see and hear more than he really ever wanted to. Being at the Moff's side so often, he began to see that the Glorious Empire was far from the honorable government that he thought it was. He saw that not all of the autrocities were committed under the commands of the Sith. That the man he had grown to look up to was a viper who did not care for the glory of the Empire.
He started watching and listening much more intently than before. And the night after he hacked into Moff Veed's terminal, he was jumped outside his apartment. The next thing he remembers is waking up aboard the Radiant Splendor, with his thought-to-be-dead sister in the cabin with him.
In the days following he found out that he had been rescued from some sort of government ruin brainwashing program located beneath Aucelis Park. Knowing that it had been done by his own people, Marek became disillusioned with the system that he had grown up believing in so very much. The captain of the Radiant Splendor, Iaco Noor, offered him a place on the ship as a crewman.
